Report: New EU sanctions may include 4 Russian banks with Alfa-Bank

MOSCOW, Feb 13 (PRIME) --The new package of E.U. sanctions may include four Russian banks, including Alfa-Bank, newswire Politico reported on Monday quoting officials and diplomats.

“New financial sanctions: Against four Russian banks, including Russia’s largest private bank, Alfa bank, founded by Russian-Israeli billionaire Mikhail Fridman,” the newswire read.

The sanctions may also include trade bans on imports of Russian rubber and bitumen, trucks, other heavy vehicles, construction machines, pumps, and other construction machines. It also includes bans on exports of electronic components that Russia may use in weapons, but it is unclear whether imports of diamonds made it into the sanction package.

The E.U. also plans to slap sanctions on a Dubai-based shipping company suspected of helping Russia bypass the oil ban.

The new individual sanctions comprise 130 companies and people, including Russian military leaders, officials of the new Russian territories, journalists working for the state media, and companies and people in other countries with links to the Wagner mercenary group.

Brussels also wants to ban Russians from serving on the boards of directors of critical infrastructure companies in the E.U., including power grid companies or natural gas providers, Politico reported.

The E.U. ambassadors are to discuss the new sanction package on Wednesday.
